You've seen the gymnastic floor exercise routines at the Olympics. Now imagine that excitement multiplied by 2, 3 or even 4 with a dash of Cirque du Soleil magic thrown in. That's what happens when acrobats from this new USAG discipline step on the competition floor.
Acrobats perform all of the tumbling, dance and leaps done by gymnasts in floor exercise routines, but they work as pairs, trios and quartets. In addition to performing intricate dance skills, acrobats thrill audiences during their "Balance" routine by building daring and fascinating pyramids reminiscent of the
world's best circus acts.
And that's just the first routine! Acrobats spend their second "Dynamic" routine launching their partners high in the air, allowing them to perform multiple flips and twists like divers before being caught safety by their partners and being thrown again for another thrilling "dive" or dismount.
The third "Combined" routine is the masterpiece, pairing skills from both routines for a display of the athletes' versatility. The final routine, it is the culmination of the competition and often the "make or break" moment for acrobats striving to come out on top
